  1. Honestly so emotional after watching that match, it was so ridiculously close and I can’t believe she managed to take it back and get the winning hit when it was 14 – 14. This means so much to all of Ukraine and I’m so proud of her.

    Another great quote from her:

“It doesn’t matter what kind of medal, I dedicate it to Ukrainian people, to my country, to [the] defenders, to everyone who’s suffered from the war and it’s everything to them. Thank you for the support, my country is the best and we are looking for freedom. This is freedom, to be on the piste to show all the world that this is freedom”

  2. Imagine the attitude of these athletes still knowing the situation in their country and trying to cope with everything, it’s excellent! Let’s go Ukraine

  3. I think they mentioned during the opening ceremony that over 40 Olympic hopeful athletes had been killed since the start of the war. Just burtal, and really puts into perspective what an accomplishment even making the team had to have been.

  4. The match profession was AMAZING to watch. If you all have an Olympics team package I recommend watching it, it’s Sabre so the match is fast and furious and not very long.

  5. A bit of context for non-fencers, Kharlan is a legend and one of the most accomplished fencers ever in women’s sabre. Four times world champion, twice world team champion and olympic team champion in 2008.

She was disqualified from fencing in 2023 for refusing to shake the hand of a Russian fencer at the world championships (the organisers had previously confirmed she wouldn’t have to), but the IOC intervened, the ban was lifted after the event and she was invited to Paris.

She’s the only person to qualify and compete in 5 olympics (2008-2024) for women’s sabre and absolutely smashed it with her 3rd bronze, putting Ukraine on the medal table.

  6. Slava Ukraini! Thank you for, along with the Ukrainian men’s gymnastics team, providing a truly memorable day. You both have shown the definition of the words for men and women. You honor your nation and yourselves.

  7. I didn’t know what she was saying, but knew what she was meaning just by looking at her. Started crying watching it.
