  1. Unfortunately this just is kinda how it be

Like I know a lot of people on reddit either call them Satan incarnate or try to romanticize cartels “better than the government” but the fact is they’re still just gangs doing gang shit. For my entire life even if you yourself haven’t been a victim and your area is mostly safe the majority of people are at least 2 degrees of separation from cartels and their bulls it and know at least one person who was disappeared or know someone who had one of their people disappeared.

I love Mexico, my family is in Mexico, I have my dual citizenship and live part time in Mexico. I do not advise anyone go to Mexico, even to tourist areas which are mostly safe. Mexico is an *active warzone*. Headlines like this just remind you to the fact. The risk is too great for people who do not know the area or know someone who does.

You’re at regular risk of being a victim if you play your cards wrong and even then you’re at risk of being collateral damage in a war. It’s like going to the West Bank to visit because it’s safer than Gaza. It’s still a nation at war and not advised.

  2. Sometimes I wonder if cultures in the past maybe had the right idea with duelling and the honor behind it.

Because in places where the rule of law is flimsy, this basically seems to be the chosen avenue of repaying vendettas.
