Man… Being the first ~~athlete~~ man from the country to qualify for an Olympic final in a sport and to not only win a medal but the Gold ?
I remember how my whole country went nuts when Neeraj Chopra accomplished this same feat in Men’s Javelin Throw in Tokyo. He bacame a national Icon overnight. I hope the Irish appreciate this guy just as well.
I would be disappointed if he isn’t offered a free beer at every Irish pub in existence.
I just wanted to give him a big hug when he got emotional on the podium! I’m so happy for him. Go on Ireland! Crushed it!

Unfortunately, people are already making it political. When I say “from northern ireland,” I’m highlighting it because it hasn’t happened in so long, Mary Peters was the last one, I think.
It’s a great win for team ireland. This and rugby shows what we can do on an all island level

The way he powered through the final length was amazing. So wonderful to hear the National anthem being played. It was very emotional.

After Cillian Murphy’s golden award season that ended with an Oscar making him the first irish born actor to win for a lead category, a first Gold medal at the Olympics in swimming.
