Internet on a newly rented apartment

Hi everyone. I just rented an apartment after a long and difficult search. One thing that I did not look was the internet connection. It is an old building and the landlord told me that the connections were new. But the only thing there was cables that were ripped off. I don't know if I have cable or only DSL. The websites say there is cable available. But I don't think that it might be on the building. Can someone maybe tell me how I can figure it out?

  1. You have:

    * A coax connection, which can be potentially used for cable internet if that is available in your building, or might go somewhere else
    * An old-fashioned analog landline termination, which can be used for DSL
    * something on the bottom that I cannot make out because image quality is too bad. Might be extension of the telephone line.

So both cable and DSL are still in.

Ring at your neighbours, take the opportunity to introduce yourself, ask if the landlines are still working, and/or if you have cable internet via coax.

  2. From the look of the existing hardware, it looks like you can only get a 56k dial-up 😂
