  1. Iβ€˜m genuinely wondering, do mental disabilities count too?

Would I (who has ADHD + social disorder) qualify for Paralympics?

  2. This was bigger than just this, they had 2 actually disabled people on bench while the rest of the team was pretending. When one was recognized he wrote an article outing the team, probably trying to save his own skin. The organizer of this who collected millions in this scam was fined about 5.4k and let go.
Several other teams, if not all, were running the same con but since all attention was on Spain they just quietly left as the entire thing was cancelled from the paralympics for several years due to the scandal

  3. Imagine going to the Paralympics and steal medals from other contestants with disabilities that has spent maybe years preparing for this event.

“Yay! We won over a bunch of disabled people!”

  4. Omg it’s a real story

    Wiki:

    >The Basketball ID event at the 2000 Paralympic Games were marred by one of sport’s biggest controversies which saw a classification of athlete removed from the next two Paralympic games. Fernando Martin Vicente, former head of the Spanish Federation for Mentally Handicapped Sports, allowed athletes with no disabilities to compete at the Games in order to win the gold medal. The team at the centre of the row was the Spanish basketball team, who won the gold medal after beating Russia in the final despite fielding a team mainly composed of athletes with no intellectual disability. The athletes were quickly exposed and the IPC reacted by stripping Spain of their medal and removing all events from the following Games for athletes with intellectual disabilities.[1] Events for athletes with intellectual disabilities returned to the Paralympic schedule in 2012.[2]

  5. *At one point during the first game of the tournament, when they were leading China by 30 points, Ribagorda claimed the coach told the players: ‘Lads, move down a gear or they’ll figure out you’re not disabled.’*

    IncreΓble

  6. In truth they had the 2nd worst disability of all…. they were Spanish. But at least they weren’t French.
