Was such a fun watch, I really feel for Japan tho the ones who lost the last few matches must feel gutted
Japan’s sabre will try to take revenge on France.
Massive massive respect for the Japanese too, they were an incredible team!
Tokyo’s gold was fair and square but guys let’s be honest we have been lucky on this one.
Gaba mvp
Respect for Japan, they are incredible judokas, no match is easy against them.
Great effort by the whole team, but what an ending by Teddy (and Joan for keeping us in the match)
Incredible finale. Well played Japan they could have won it it they were a bit luckier with the golden score draw
What a great final this was. Gaba defeating Abe was not something I was expecting! Teddy in the golden score was written in the stars lol
It was such a legendary watch. Teddy Riner is who he thinks he is
Beyond Riner, I want to thank Gaba for giving us hope when we were led 3-1.
Digital roulette lol
I feel a bit sad for Japan, but that was crazy
The moment Teddy Riner was drawn at 3-3 for the decider… Pure ecstasy.
As a french person a finale against Japan in judo is always a treat. After last one in Tokyo in 2021, this one was particularly impactful. Thank you for this amazing finale. Thank you Japanese judokas who delivered some magnificent judo even though the weight categories didn’t give them an advantage. Thank you for the beautiful spirit you all had.
That was an incredible finale, but Japanese are going to have nightmares of Teddy Riner, first Tokyo then now this come back ? But massive respect to them, it was amazing seeing that live
If you read judo thread – it was the most rigged competition or most amazing one ever – no in-betweens. It probably reminds of the Hamilton – Verstappen finale where refs wanted them to decide championship by racing but circumvented their own rules for the show. It’s up to the viewer to decide whether sport is more about rules or more about the show.
Great for France 🥳 Japan was at top level.
Gaba is the goat and deserve some light on.
Insane is the word for sure. I was cheering for a Japanese victory revenge match to make up for 2021; so many golden score matches. Loved watching Murao put 100% on the line in his first outing.
Genuinely unbelievable drama, what a way for Teddy Riner to go out. Might end up being the most iconic moment of these Games IMO
That look that Teddy had on the draw. Killer instinct.
Replace the Eiffel Tower with a statue of Teddy Riner
great finale, a bit of luck when they got +90 for the last match
This was such an incredible comeback. The Gaba ippon was a miracle – and the refs deciding not to end matches on a shido really saved our asses.
My first thought is to the members team Japan, who are way more technical and really beautiful judokas. I wouldn’t have been upset at all to see them take revenge for Tokyo.
Still, a crazy win for France, full of grit, fighting spirit and quite a bit of luck. One of the memorable moments of the Olympics.
So sad there is no argentinian team in judo
The French judo team: not safe for Argentinians.
I don’t know any of the rules of the sport and didn’t have a favorite and it was still a nail biter for me!
It was more difficult than it was in Japan. Those japanese guys and girls are getting better at judo.
I’ve never watched Judo in my life and was just enthralled. Fantastic and absolutely thrilling. Remember – no shame in silver when you fight that hard.
Didn’t realize Judo can be this dramatic! lol
I know nothing about Judo so when I saw both teams lining up after the normal time I assumed they would have an all-out battle royale. A little disappointed that didn’t happen but then we saw the 2 giants face off which was a good match.
The peak of the Olympics for me so far
These mixed competitions are one of the best things they have ever introduced
Love to see all the wholesome moments as well as tactical tricks.
Mfs will pay money to play the lottery for a 0.0000002% chance to win but then if an event that has a 16% chance happens they’re all incredulous.
16+ years and the Japanese never found an answer for Teddy (not forgetting Kageura’s one victory). An amazing final. I thought the Japanese were up against it on paper (with Riner a lock and 3 Japanese judoka fighting up a weight class), but getting to 3-1 up with Abe having the chance to seal the deal only to lose it was crazy to witness.
This is one of the things I absolutely frigging adore about the Olympics – Judo is one of the sports I don’t typically watch, but when the Olympics comes it’s one of the sports I enjoy watching so, so much! And it never disappoints, honestly, what a final that was!!!
Absolute class from both sides. Such honorable fights ❤️🔥
Can someone explain why the commentators kept mentioning that every/every other japanese judoka was below the weight class by 1 or 2x? why not fight at the same weight class?
That was so awesome
The special of Tsunoda on Cysique was something to watch too, despite her being underweight. This finale, with Japanese on a revenge from Tokyo (french win) was epic.
Oh my, that is a beautiful photo. Almost feels like a painting.
This photo is so cool.
I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the most exhilarating sports moments I have ever seen.
When they went down 3-1 I thought they had almost no chance. I was literally wondering what are the odds it turns into a Disney movie and if France came back that Teddy would fight for the gold.
Then they came back…. And they spun the wheel… and it landed on the number with the crowd going insane… and then Teddy comes out and fucking WINS it
It was an absolute cinema-level spectacle. Never seen anything like it. What a moment

GOAT status cemented
