For this Olympics, I’m considering myself to be a US citizen to feel what it’s like to win something other than 3 bronze medals

However it finishes, 100m is the most important medal. IMO it counts, like, 5 golds
There’s going to come a day where it’s getting later in the Olympics and the US isn’t at the top of golds and they can all lump on. That’s fair.
But right now all they have is a few days into the Olympics to talk…..and then dash away like they will do now.

If the Olympics expanded synchro diving to like 400 medals, the Chinese would win so easily.

Now I truly get the 2 or 3 person per country rule. I was emotional about Jordan Chiles not getting a chance and felt it wasn’t right before. But given the resources countries like the US, China, Australia, France, UK etc. have for certain sports, they could run away with sweeping the podium in several sports otherwise.

Some people just can’t handle all of that freedom
The Americans are definitely winning and China second. The battle for 3rd is between us, France and Australia
Anyone thinking the US wasn’t going to end up leading both gold and count was kidding themselves. They have too many participants in basically every event to not keep their hold on the Olympics. They’ll lose some stuff they should have won like the mixed 400 relay. Then they win things they weren’t expected to like women’s road race. Don’t get gold in the men’s swimming relay? Cool, just pick up the gold for golf. In the end, it all just works out.
I know that you talking about golds but god damn that 71 total medals is sexy as hell. I like the idea of ranking based on total medals. Ranking by golds will rank some countries at the bottom when they will have some silvers and bronzes.
Why is Canada doing so bad?
Yank here, but I’ve really been enjoying the diversity of countries winning medals, esp countries that are medalling for the first time <3
Why? The gap is going to grow significantly more
Meanwhile I’m just happy Canada is doing pretty well 17 medals for our winter country 🙂
I don’t know why people just assume the US will win the gold count as well. In 2020 there was only a difference of 1 between the US and China (39 – 38). There is definitely a chance either takes 1st.
