(Not an expert on this topic so please be aware.)Forte Vezzena was an Austro-Hungarian fortress built close to the border of Italy. It served as an artillery base and observation post. In 1915, only a few minutes after war was declared it was hit by the first shells, which heavily damaged the fort. It continued to function however, and was only captured by Italy at the end of the war. Today the fort still stands and serves as a monument of the war.
