I like the effort but the setup here is confusing. What’s the point of the years on the bottom if they don’t correspond with anything?
While I get why you put Gold in the center, without an actual podium it doesn’t seem right to order them Silver, Gold, Copper.
This is not beautiful presentation of data, it’s confusing presentation of data. Leaving the labels off the medal groupings might have been OK if you didn’t put a meaningless year scale below them.
I still remember coming up to the 1992 Olympics reading in the paper that USA were guaranteed winners, but with USSR and Yugoslavia breaking up, Australia were a chance at a medal. (same could go for many countries).
