  1. Incredibly saddened by this. I remember as a young lad watching Kent play Surrey and he was standing at the edge of the ground with Alec Stewart. Both were happy to sign an autograph for me.

  2. Edgbaston 1997. His 138 with Nasser’s 207 made me want to be a cricketer. I was in awe and he was a hero to me.

  3. This is very sad news. I’m assuming that because his colleagues are saying how shocked they are, this was out of the blue and totally unexpected.

  4. This hits hard. Such a classy, elegant yet gritty batsman and evidently a good man too. Condolences to his loved ones.
