Ukraine’s aviation fleet is extremely outdated. And if we talk about American F-16 fighters , they were created as a technological platform that is developing. This was said by Ukrainian aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap, Channel 24 reports .

It is noted that Russia significantly outnumbers Ukraine in the aviation component. This situation should be corrected by Western F-16 fighters, which, according to various reports, could have already arrived in Ukraine.

According to Kryvolap, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not received a single aircraft since the declaration of Independence. All aircraft, with the exception of those that were given to us by partners, were modernized at the level of the 2000s, he added.

“I can in no way say that the F-16 is an outdated aircraft, like our MiG or Su. Although 50 years have passed since its first release,” the expert emphasized.

It is indicated that Ukrainian aviation is equipped with old systems with radars for 70-80 kilometers. Pilots are forced to accompany launched missiles, illuminating them with radars. And until the missile hits the target, it is impossible to turn around. Modern fighters work according to the opposite scheme.

Let us remember that the F-16 is just a flying platform for various guided missiles that can be launched from this aircraft.

  4. THE F16s Sent to Ukraine were Probably manufactured in the very late 1998 1999 early 2000s. So these aircraft are probably around 27 to 28 years old maximum. And they are heavily modified with up-to-date electronics dating back from 2020.

  5. Just because the F16 was made over 50 years ago. Doesn't mean that every single F16 is that old. I would say the majority of them that are in militaries around the world were produced in the very late 90s early 2000s.

NATO and the United States are getting their asses kicked in Ukraine, over 650,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and over 20 million Ukrainian citizens have left the country! It is devastating!   22. The F16 is an old 1980's second hand NATO plane but the point is that it still flys and provides a general platform which means a wider selection of munitions can now be sent. The russian jets are a later generation so its unlikely the F16s will get involved in any direct dog fighting. The F16 may not be the best but its a good alrounder. A sort of "Bradley of the skies". With the latest "view to target" helmets and hopefully the AIM-120 C "Fire then forget" missile then if a russian fighter comes close it will be Fire then evade and head home.
