If you haven’t read The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward Tufte … I’ve seen your posts and it’s clear many of you have not … then I highly recommend picking up a copy. It features this and many other historical examples of how to create beautiful representations of data.
And if you buy it used and your copy happens to have a label on the inside back cover that says “Property of Whitehall Robins”, that is my old copy and I’d love to buy it back from you. I guess it would be more accurate to say it became mine, for a time, and I’d love for it to become mine again for a while.
