My dad being an ex postie told me why… I had the same question!
Apparently the trousers are super uncomfortable, and make a horrible noise as you walk. Similar to what sand paper would sound like if you rubbed it against a tent. Pair that with miles up on miles of walking, it would soon drive anyone crazy.
