Just watched this!! Her love of surfing totally shows. Well deserved!! Brazil also surfed really well securing the silver 🙂
I might be biased, but the grades of Tati seems really off.
“Sports” with subjective scoring have to go. That 7.5 didn’t make sense at all. Lol

Never watched surfing before, but evidently being deeper in the tunnel is valued way more than all the fancy stuff after exiting it. Otherwise that scoring makes no sense to me

I thought it was so exciting having a medal event this late. Caroline was incredible bringing in a well deserved gold to cap off the day!
do the people screaming rigged even know how surfing judging works? you get a WAY higher score for surfing the barrel then you get for cute little tricks on the wave. its honestly more shocking that tatiana got a 4.5 on a wave she didnt even enter the barrel ONCE

Very anticlimactic final session for both men and women ☹️ the waves just weren’t coming in today.
Man I’m really trying to give surfing a shot, but as a neutral it ain’t it for me, lol.
All the judge/scoring based sports are my least favorite and surfing seems to have a big luck aspect on top of it all.
Then i go to the subs for the specific sports and even the fans don’t really seem to fully understand how the scoring works.
This one was a little less boring than the men’s final i guess.

Sad that Hennessey didnt even get Bronze 🙁
Surfing is a very very subjective sport unfortunately. In some conditions, solid barrels score much higher than turns, as was the case today. In some conditions, turns score higher than barrels as a solid critical barrel is non-existent given the condition of the waves. Ideally, a good judging panel will be clear with competitors what they’re looking for before the day’s competition starts if conditions require.
They likely did and were also consistent with scoring barrels higher throughout the day and event. Tati put on an amazing performance in the Olympics but was far from robbed.
Source: was a pro surfer and have been judged by people who were maybe on this Olympic judging panel. It’s tough for even intermediate surfers who watch competitive surfing to know what a score will be, much less someone who doesn’t know the sport. Be mindful of that before you shout rigged or robbed.
