When I have lived abroad, one of the things I ended up missing the most was British countryside.
The Lakes, the Pennines.
It’s really strange. No one ever told me that is what I would miss. Even in a pretty similar European country like Germany (which has lovely forests), it’s still just not the same as our country side.
Also I missed fish and chips and mushy peas like a bastard on fire, but that’s a different matter entirely.
The mountainous part of the lake district is actually quite a small area when compared to the Pennines, Dales, Highlands etc. but it packs so much into such a small area! By far the most beautiful place in England IMO
