Saw this post the other day on 100m ranking versus previous Olympic years and was a little bit confused, so tried a different attempt to view the data. Maybe it’s more confusing, but hopefully not 🙂
Always open to feedback. Thanks.
100m athletics races go from left to right on tv. It would be great if the fastest time was on the far right as it would resemble the race.
I think this data shows two things pretty well: – The average speed of the 100m has definitely gotten faster over time – Usain was that guy
Whether you think he was juicing or not – Bolt was a complete freak of nature. His 9.58 will stand for decades IMO.
Why was Rio so slow? Weather?
Should add the ‘88 final (the world’s dirtiest race) for a good comparison
If usain bolt didn’t exist, yohan Blake would have 2 gold medals from 2012 and still hold 2 world records (100m, 200m)
Instead, he got gapped by like 4 feet twice lmao
The fastest time not run by Usain took silver a league behind him. Yohan Blake would have been a household name if he had been born a little earlier or later. And Gatling was far faster in his bronze effort than his gold.
You should also include the world championships in this chart.
More than the top 3, what’s really impressive this year is the last guy.
