Ukrainian gold medalist vows to donate prize money to army, volunteers | ABS-CBN News

Ukraine’s Olympic gold medallist Yaroslava Mahuchikh said on Monday (August 5) that she would donate some of her prize money to the Ukrainian army and volunteers.
Mahuchikh won the women’s Olympic high jump gold medal on Sunday (August 4), clearing two meters in front of an adoring crowd at the Stade de France.
Australian Nicola Olyslagers took silver and Ukraine’s Iryna Gerashchenko and Australian Eleanor Patterson shared the bronze.
It was a successful night for Ukraine as Mykhaylo Kokhan also secured a bronze medal in the men’s hammer throw.
Mahuchikh fled her home in Dnipro after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 but has kept her competitive career going and claimed Olympic gold weeks after breaking a world record that had stood since 1987 with a leap of 2.10. -Report from Reuters

  2. Very sad that Yulia Levchenko did not make it to the final (also very beautiful, by the way). Her hometown Bakhmut was destroyed, it affected her very badly…
