why are so many of the runners wearing orange shoes? is that just a fashion thing?

It is crazy to me how much research and technology goes into everything from shoes to shirts and all the training and strategizing, but somehow socks can be from Walmart.
Weekend warrior hikers put more thought into their socks, what with liners and chafing creams, individual toes, merino wool, padded heels, etc. Just seems odd that no coach or team or sponsor had an opinion on the socks. Feels a little bit like office workers with a dress code who wear a suit and tie but the socks are fun 🙂
