Chart shows the buy to sell ratio of insiders over time. The dataset is collected from the SEC as insiders report these transactions on Form 4. Highlighted are a few time periods of very high ratios, indicating significant purchasing.
Correlates quite well with periods when the market experiences downturns, which is what you would expect because investors will want to get in when the prices are lower.
Interestingly, you can see the heavy bias towards selling in recent years. I speculate this is due to top insiders being paid with stock options and then selling them for cash, but maybe something to dig into more.
