  1. nice: debt interest outspends Medicaid, but not as much as spent on the military

no wonder why the US is a shithole

  2. Beautiful.

But wait – only $44 billion on transportation? You sure it’s not $440 billion?

For comparison, China reported spending of 3.9 trillion yuan ($550 billion) on transportation last year.

  3. Note that nearly all budget discussions and holdouts etc almost exclusively involve the purple and light blue spaces in the bottom right. Everything is “non-discretionary”. So a “10% decrease in discretionary spending” is almost negligible.

  4. What’s the saying? “America is an insurance conglomerate protected by a large standing army.”

  5. Arr those boxes to scale?

It doesn’t look like the area correlates to the number.

  6. I’m curious how this compares to other countries. Also, what’s with the 91billion going to banking and finance?

  7. I like the version that ties it to the clauses in the Preamble better. Shows where the money is being spent according to the rules we set for ourselves and where it isn’t (money to states and debt interest).

  8. The US government brought in 4.47 trillion dollars but spent 6.16 trillion.

This has been going on for 25+ years. This causes inflation because the supply has to be printed.

I read this story, and it ends badly.

We get $1.80 in government with $1.00 on average. Nothing is for free.

  9. Believe it or not, the United States actually spends FAR MORE on healthcare than it does on defense!

  10. So even if we zero out everything in the light blue and purple boxes, we would still be running a deficit.
