Edit: mental health issues feels vague, ill call it what it is: depression. Richy said openly he struggled with depression, and isolated himself and thought about giving up entirely. Interview here: https://youtu.be/ebD7vwMCylQ?si=ujCOS0RLsIHAFu9M

I’m sure someone will find a way to critique this but whatever your thoughts are on Richarlison and his time so far at Spurs, I have huge respect for him declining the Saudi money transfer.

On twitter, there was back lash from Al-Ahly fans saying they did not want Richarlison due to his previous mental health issues. I was pretty shocked, to be honest, because he’s a more than decent striker, at his prime age with a lot of Brazil caps.

The offer would’ve no doubt been massive money, and after his struggles with form, injury, and mental health, the easy thing to do would be to take the money, reduce the pressure and do it. But he wants to prove himself here in the premier league, hopefully with Spurs, which I really respect.

Sometimes, especially during transfer windows we forget that these are young people with hopes and dreams and goals, fair play to richy for pursuing that and not selling out in his prime.

  1. Yeah, huge respect for not taking the Saudi bag. Would be easy to rationalise taking the money like most other footballers

  2. He’s a prick on the pitch. But by all accounts is a very decent fella off it. Which is how footballers should be, fair play to him.

  3. Say what you will about Richy on the pitch, he’s always been a class act off of it.

  4. No matter how much i have disliked him over the last few seasons, i will freely admit that i am glad he decided to stay instead of taking the money

  5. Why the hell do people care so much about who chooses to go where. I couldn’t care less if he or anyone else stays or goes to Saudi Arabia. I know I’d be on the first flight there with the sort of money they’re offering.

  6. If we get our shit together In a couple of years and can get up that table and push for Europa League places I would fucking love to have this fella back, he is absolutely adored at Goodison! But for now he deserves to go to a better team.

  7. Kudos to him. He was also the only Brazilian national team player who spoke out against Bolsonaro during the last campaign.
