  1. Well deserved – 19.46 is brilliant. It did look like something was up with Lyles in the semis but even then LT deserved the win here, congratulations my man.

  2. Amazing run, clear daylight with second and even slowed to celebrate about 10 metres out.

  3. That was crazy!!!! Happy for him tho. Sucks for Lyles but he had his moment, he’ll have his time again eventually

  4. Whoever said they thought Lyles had covid, I bet you are correct. (Edit- This has already been confirmed in his interview with NBC, he tested positive with covid 2 days ago and ran anyways)

  5. Love how Tebogo made his entrance, no fanfare, just super serious and ready to do the job.

  6. Tebogo is clearly the future of this event. Only 22 years old? He will beat Usain Bolt record. At least the Olympic one in Los Angeles.

  7. I never mind confidence, even a little arrogance, but Lyles set himself up for a lot of hate with statements like “I’m incredible.” It does seem like he may have been under the weather, but I don’t think he would have asked for as much medical attention had he won. I think you have to win and lose with grace.

  8. Lyles did a bit too much jumping around before the race. There was no big break before the start, like in the 100, and if my math is correct, the 200 race is twice as long.

  9. Amazing race. Equally happy that Lyles did not win, absolutely cannot stand him

  10. Someone cute some onions near me telling me what 23.12.1980 meant to him.

Gz Tebogo, she would be proud !

  11. Considering that Lyles allegedly had COVID, 3rd place is pretty good. I feel like if Lyles had been at his strongest, we would have had a photo finish

  12. Don’t get me wrong Lyles was definitely the favourite, but Tebogo winning is not a massive shock. He’s an excellent 200m runner has been been for the past couple of years. Of course, we know now that Lyles had covid, but honestly 19.46 would be a tough time to beat anyway.

Lyles has run faster in the past, but doubling up is tough, when Lyles doubled up in the world champs he ran 19.52 in the 200 final which wouldn’t have won this race.

  13. Based off how the semi-final went I wouldn’t say this was a shock. Dude is fast af.

  14. Feels a bit like a coming of age moment for Tebogo, which you love to see in sport. Massively gifted junior making good as an adult. Man’s set the National Record for 100m and 200m this Olympics, he’s been on fire! Well done lad.

He’d run 19.50 before too, so him winning shouldnt be a huge shock.

  15. Not a shock upset when you have watched Tebogo accelerate faster than Lyles in previous 200m races

  16. CBC commentators said that he ran barefoot until 2020 until a company heard about him and bought him spikes?? Incredible!!

  17. This wasn’t an upset. Tebogo’s been on the radar for a while as a big talent. I mean, it’s an upset in that we didn’t expect him to beat Lyles, but it’s not a huge shock to me that he did.

  18. Amazing performance by Tobogo, he’s absolutely crushed them, what a legend!

Along with Alfred from St.Lucia in the women’s 100m that’s go to be the standout performance of the Olympics so far, dude’s a stone cold killer!

Edit : Love the Bolt-esque closing 10 as well!

  19. Can’t really be an upset when first and last is separated by a fraction of a second

  20. Not enough people are realizing that this is Botswana’s first ever gold medal. Tebogo won his countries first ever Olympic gold medal. That’s fucking insane. Stop with the Lyles discourse, let’s celebrate this amazing feat!
