[OC] US city nicknames tend to feature cultivated plants and animals over native and wild species

  1. How did you decide whether the species are native or introduced?

    For example, there are North American orchids and European orchids. Orchid isn’t one species. How do you know the town was nicknamed after an introduced species and not a native one?

    Same question for elm, maple, goose, cherries, probably a few others.

    Also do you mean native to the continent, or native to the region? If I stock a Florida bass in Minnesota, is that native or introduced? There are bass native to Minnesota, but the Florida bass isn’t one of them.
