The competitor dropped out of college to follow his dream and it certainly paid off.

  1. These guys were incredible today. Respect to Phil for living up to the hype and the other competitors for showing up at the biggest stage!

  2. Wow, I was doubtful yesterday but that final was so fun to watch! Phil Wizard’s a wizard indeed.

  3. Deserved. He was amazing. Shigekix it was close. Otherwise he was better than everyone.

  4. What an event!

Congrats to Phil, Danny Dan, Victor, Shigekix, and all the BBoys. I actually wouldn’t mind keeping breaking around considering the amount of talent on display.

  5. 🇨🇦🧙🏻‍♂️🪄

That event was a blast. I raised my eyebrows when I saw “breaking” was an Olympic event, and now I’m bummed we won’t get it next Olympics 🙁

  6. Absolutely amazing battle by Phil Wizard and Shigekix!

He was the heavy favorite ever since breaking was announced in the Olympics.

Wish it would come back next time + teams

  7. I absolutely loved this addition to the games. I hope LA is able to sneak it in last second. And remember, if you don’t like the sport, you don’t have to watch it. The more competitions the better! I’m a big advocate for adding whatever athletic competition the people want.

  8. That was so much fun. Really hope they reconsider and bring it back for 2028. It’s in LA so there’s a lot of history there.

  9. Couldn’t have happened to a better person this event bar Shigekix

These two are the cheeriest and most respectful people in the scene

  10. I was not expecting much but men’s breaking was amazing to watch the whole way through, really entertaining! Deserved win for Phil Wizard. Shame we won’t see breaking again in LA, though

  11. Huge win for the Canadian hip hop scene. Shigekix and Dany were super dope too but Phil’s unique movement and creativity are just next level

  12. Its a shame that Aussie’s flailing had people writing breaking off, this was so fun today. Knew Phil was taking it as soon as he predicted Shigekix’s move and had the crowd going nuts

  13. Amazing battle! Elite breakers have crazy strength and body control mixed with rhythm and creativity, it was so cool to see

  14. I had my doubts going in about if this would be a good olympic sport but I definitely found it highly entertaining and enjoyable. I hope they bring it back. The wiz was slinging spells like a mad man

  15. Phil showcased by far the most innovative style and unique moves in this competition.

I know some spectators might be confused why he won over dancers who showed more acrobatic routines (like in the semi-final vs. Shigekix).

I can tell you that a big part of it is that while I could name almost every move and combination a dancer like Shigekix did, Phil was doing moves so creative and innovative that nobody would know what to call them. The artistry is a huge component, and while some dancers had very clean technical execution on challenging moves, Phil had the execution combined with the *creativity, musicality, and style* that really set him apart from the field.

I started breaking at 13, battled and danced in competitions, etc., so I’m able to speak to this with a little more context for the art-form than most. What Phil does is a style he completely owns, and I was frequently in awe of the creativity of the moves he was pulling out over the course of the day.

  16. He was so fun to watch, all the competitors were. Congrats Phil you made Canada proud!

  17. All the finalists were amazing, but Phil was on another level. Dude deserves to win the first Olympic gold medal in this.

  18. Absolutely unbelievable. Predicting Shigekix was such a burn in the semi-finals and once Danny lost just a little confidence you could see The Wiz just push himself into overdrive.

  19. At the end it was fun. Prop to the French for bringing it to the Olympics, even though the best competitors are from other countries.

  20. Nice!! Canada won the first gold in men’s snowboarding in 1998 too, feels like the winter Olympics equivalent.

  21. Breaking was way more awesome than I expected. Doesn’t deserve the ridicule it got this past day. Impressive moves and extremely fun vibes. I liked it a lot.

The only thing I would change is in terms of the presentation of it all. I think it would be better if the two hype men were part of the tv broadcast instead of commentators. Since music plays such a huge part in the competition, commentators are not necessary. You want to hear the music and see how the dancers react to it, instead of having commentators talk over it. There are probably other things one could change and tweak, but this is the one thing I noticed most.

  22. This is the level of breaking the world needed to see, and I couldn’t be more proud. I had the privilege of dancing with Phil Wizard a few years back, and he’s not just an incredible athlete but also an amazing person to be around. Watching all the men perform with such skill and athleticism was truly inspiring.

Some might argue that break dancing isn’t a sport because it’s an art form or dance, but so are many other Olympic events. Break dancing absolutely deserves its place in the Olympics. It’s more than just athleticism—it’s a powerful blend of creativity, culture, and individual expression that you won’t find in sports like water polo, equestrian, or golf. In particular, men’s breaking demands an extraordinary level of power and stamina that, in my view, surpasses many traditional sports. It brings a fresh, dynamic energy that redefines what we celebrate in the Olympics.
