  1. Very well played by China to likely win the games this year, tough competition between them and the USA.

I’m just really happy for Aus, massively outdoing their population to achieve so many gold medals!

  2. The US will likely take the Women’s Omnium and basketball. There’s the 76kg freestyle wrestling to go as well. So they’re going No.1

  3. Tbh didnt think the 36 medals grom Tokyo would be matched, but still 34 :0 it can only go down from here.

    Awesome job, athletes!

  4. Why couldn’t another country have 17 gold medals? That would complete the 19 through 11 gold medals order.

  5. In just a couple days GB went from fighting for 4th to 7th on the table. Damn. Those fumbled Gold medals were always going to catch us I guess.

  6. Us at 6th is something i did not expect after the first 4 days without a medal. Crazy performance this year

  7. So if US and China tie in gold medals are we going to be petty or just accept that both countries had good years?

  8. Look at the athletics medals table lol, *trying to find a way to include Kenya in the conversation* haha love!

  9. Britain is on a concerning trend since London – fewer golds in each Olympic cycle, and a big drop off this time. We need to see changes and a renewed commitment to sport.

  10. All in all we did really good!

Broke our gold medals record (15 in Atlanta), total medals record (43 in Beijing) and finished top 5 for the first time 🍾🥳

[That being said, our Track & Field federation really needs to take a hard look in the mirror, it’s just embarrassing at this point. They likely won’t though.]

  11. There’s only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people’s cultures and the Dutch

  12. Appreciate nobody will see this comment, but I think the narrative around total medals sucks. Olympics is about the athletes. Each gold silver and bronze is an amazing story. Reducing it to this statistics is a fun side story but we should take it a little less seriously IMO

  13. These games have been so much fun to watch both on a competitive level and sportsmanship between all the athletes.

  14. Well done China. GB slipped to 7th, 26 medals behind China… and China have 26 more gold than us. Team GB has a conversion problem. Still better then Atlanta ’96 though.

  15. only 5 countries have more than 50 medals, and only 18-19 countries have double digit medals. majority of the countries end up with 3-4 medals

  16. Just cut off at 11th is New Zealand with our best ever Olympics. 10 golds with 20 medals total not bad for a nation of 5 million

  17. I’m impressed with the Netherlands! Only 17M people, and 6th place regarding the medals.

Wow wow. Congrats from 🇭🇷 (small countries supporting small countries)

  18. I know these are the rules but a country with only 5 golds and no other medals will end up in top 20, but a country with 20 bronzes and 20 silvers and no golds will probably end up in the last 20. it’s really crazy, sometimes I think what’s the point of giving bronzes and silvers, if your ranking is only going to be decided by golds

  19. Me, a Brit, a week ago: the Americans order the table by total medals instead of golds? Pffft. Ridiculous.

Me today: Perhaps that is the best way.

  20. I’m torn, I want the US to beat China in the medal table but it would be fun to see France win the Women’s Basketball Gold.

  21. No problem, just like Beijing 2008, the US media will simply change the rules and come up with their own table showing America on top.

  22. I hope india gets into top 20 rankings by next olympics. It doesn’t take more than 5 golds to get into top 20. with cricket being added in LA 28, it shouldn’t be too hard

  23. All these countries revelling in their medal PR’s like 70 Russian medals aren’t getting re-allocated

  24. Does anybody know how much China compensates their athletes for winning medals? I see it’s quite lucrative for Hong Kong.
