French left begins discussions on selecting PM candidate • FRANCE 24 English

The coalition of left and green parties that make up the New Popular Front began discussions on selecting a name to put forward as a potential new prime minister Monday following the group’s surprise victory in snap legislative elections that gave them the most seats in parliament but not a majority. It is likely to be the first major post-election test of how well the parties can work together and put differences aside.

  1. The wall between freedom and fascism, is a narrow and fearfully fragile one. Now with Russia seemingly deploying tens of thousands to spew pro fascist comments all over the internet, that wall is being dug away on both sides.

  2. How long will the left stay united when they can't form a government without entering into a coalition with a non-left party? It's going to be chaos

  3. I propose Melenchon, or someone more to the left….in fact the more communist the better….at least we got rid of “muh far right” 🤡🇫🇷🤭

  4. I suspect the New Popular Front might nominate someone from a smaller party/grouping, like the Ecologist Greens, to prevent power struggles between France Unbowed (LFI) and the Socialist Party (PS). Unless it's someone from the more left-wing within the Socialist Party (PS) that are at least sympathetic to LFI's policies/concerns, but which Macron's Ensemble (ENS) will at least tolerate enough not to reject out of hand. I guess Place Publique is also possible, but I kinda doubt it. LFI is the largest party in NFP, and they'll likely have the backing of the PCF, I don't think they will compromise and agree to that "centrist" of a candidate to represent the NFP as Prime Minister.

Of course, LFI and PCF are highly unlikely to be nominated, because Macron would very likely never appoint them.
