May be because I’ve not really been following this story but it doesn’t seem that shocking. If he wasn’t going to go to Barca or Arsenal then I doubt a Kloppless Liverpool would have got him either.
Frustrating as we were clearly lead to believe he was interested, whether that’s a sketchy agent wanting to secure a new deal or what, we’ll likely never know.
Even more frustrating is that this seems to be it? No other targets. Just tried once and that’s that. Well roll with what we have.

Liverpool have surprisingly little pull with top players considering their European history. Seems like every summer at least 1 highly sought after player rejects them.

I get fans being annoyed that we’re not signing a backup but not market for CDM’s at the top level is dead and out squad really isn’t as terrible as people are making out. Slot has almost too many midfielders to work with.
If we were going into the season setting up with a single 6 and only having Endo/Macca or Bajcetic to use then I would be concerned as neither are currently good enough for a long role. In a double pivot we’re not in a terrible position.
Maybe Zubimendi has burnt his bridge with Hughes/Edwards/Slot now but maybe he ends up signing in Jan after giving Sociedad time to find replacements. Sounds like Sociedad put a lot of pressure on him about leaving them in a bad place and maybe when the window closes he’ll come to regret his decision. Being potentially guilt tripped into staying usually doesn’t end well long term.
