  1. “He died in WW2”

    Good

EDIT: for those downvoting – he was literally in the Nazi Wehrmacht. His son never actually knew him and wasn’t raised a Nazi.

  2. There is a lot wrong with your approach.
“Nazi Wehrmacht“ soldiers killed in WWII, i.e. saying only a dead German is a good German equates to „Imperialist US soldiers“ killed in Vietnam.
Many war dead, historically on the “wrong” side, did in fact not commit war crimes or abbetted genocide. But Lt. Calley was a war criminal and survived the Vietnam War – well that’s good in your opinion? Or should he at least have stayed in jail?
And by the way, a lot of Wehrmacht soldiers, surely many, who respected the Geneva Convention in WWII became members of the newly founded West German Army, who formed the basis for the US and NATO defence against Communism in Western Europe. Communists, the US were fighting in Vietnam, where individual soldiers committed war crimes – so how about you judge a man by his character and not by his uniform?

  3. As mentioned by u/Level99Cooking Jesse Owens admitted the story was fabricated, also other athletes did not see Luz speaking to Owens during the competition.

However his Wikipedia page has a photo of Luz and Owens walking hand in hand through the stadium, and I guess given the tension on the subject of race at that time (not only Germany vs. USA, but also within the US team) this is the real news.

  4. that’s heart breaking. An olympic silver medalist dies a few years later in a dumb war for an asinine cause.
