Global IT outage ‘not that surprising’ with tech providers ‘everywhere in all different companies’

The major IT outage that impacted services across the globe should not come as a major surprise, says Mathieu Garin, cybersecurity expert at Wavestone, as numerous companies now depend on just a handful of cloud platforms, operating systems and security components, meaning a glitch in one can have worldwide consequences.

  1. All they have to do is roll back to the last version that worked. It's quite simple in the tool to do…..just a few clicks, assuming that the system will allow one to get back on it or accept the new "update" to the last working version. This can be updated to tens of thousands of end points in a fairly quick fashion. If one can't do this, then there is a much much bigger issue going on here than just a simple version update or update to virus signatures.

  2. They failed to do proper testing, infact 8 out of 10 updates go like this – most of them doesn't cause this scale catastrophe, so they just slip through our eyes.

  4. The problem is having a homogeneous computing infrastructure. All computers have the same problem. This time the problem manifested really quickly but other problems could be hidden for a while. No easy solution.
