Australian Olympic Committee Statement on Oceania Qualifying Process for Breaking

  1. It’s absolutely disgusting that some sick individuals made up a pack of lies about the qualifying process, deliberately spread it online and even started a petition built on those lies.

What kind of an awful person does this? About something which presumably they have absolutely nothing to do with.

  2. That really should be the end of it. The narrative around Raygun rigging the event to get a free trip is a warped narrative based on repeated half truths and lies.

Any amount of fact checking will show the slander. But no one’s going to look up the judging panel to see that her husband was not on it. Raygun will have legitimate grounds for a defamation case.

She didn’t control the qualification process. She was present and took the opportunity that was made available. It’s not her fault that she won in the weakest breaking region without any other bar for entry.

She has no involvement in AusBreaking.

AusBreaking didn’t pick how qualifications were held.

The problem is holistic. It represents the haste in which breaking was adopted by WDSF and put into the Olympics with little existing structure for organised competition. Official rankings only existed since 2021. The Olympic sport format is too young and raw that there hasn’t been a way to establish an international standard.

You give a region two months to organise an Olympic qualifier, and people will miss out. Raygun put herself in a position where she ended up being the winner in a small event filled with low level dancers.

This reflects the status of breaking as a sport. Whether it should be in the Olympics is debatable, but it wasn’t ready to be.

If it is to stand a chance at coming back, it needs a “Raygun rule” to establish a minimum skill level, like many other sports, so even if they qualify, they need to do a pre-selection dance with a minimum qualifying score. That’s what happened after the infamous Eddie the Eagle.

  3. Kinda funny that Australia has the most successful Olympics ever yet needs to spend time talking about Raygun.

Hope she is cashing in on her 15 minutes
