Paris 2024 was a historic Olympics, with nearly 9 million of the 10 million available tickets already sold as of April 2024, surpassing the previous record of 8.3 million tickets sold for Atlanta 1996. This level of attendance sharply contrasted with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were held behind closed doors due to the pandemic. Paris aimed to achieve something previous hosts like Rio, London, and Beijing couldn’t: selling out all available tickets. London 2012 came the closest with 97% of tickets sold, while Athens 2004 struggled with just 71% sold.
