Democratic ‘ranks are closing fast’ around VP Kamala Harris • FRANCE 24 English

Democrats rapidly coalesced around Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday as she raced to secure the party’s nomination to take on Donald Trump in November in the wake of President Joe Biden’s sensational exit. “The ranks are closing fast … they (Democrats) are circling the wagons around Kamala Harris,” FRANCE 24’s Douglas Herbert said in an analysis.

  2. In the last election Trump told his followers that outgoing vice-president Mike Pence could refuse to certify the election results. According to that logic it means that Kamala Harris as outgoing VP could refuse to accept the 2024 election results should the orange buffoon win. I challenge any maga genius to point out the flaw in my reasoning.

    Should be.

    However you can see a mile off Harris could push abortion possibly as if it's the most important thing. Especially to a demographic holding shouty, studenty, females, to whom it might be the only thing.

    The same demographic in Paris which takes to the streets if it doesn't get it's own way.

Everybody knows it’s impossible with 100 days left to stage a legitimate run against Kamala’s now inherited war chest from Biden. “She wants to be Democratic”. 😂 nice word salad that means literally nothing. If they wanted to be Democratic they would have announced before the primaries

  14. In 1968, after President Johnson decided not to run for reelection, the Democrat National Convention met (ironically, also in Chicago) after the assassination of Robert Kennedy.

    It was political theater at its best. The democrats knew they were running against a Nixon-Agnew ticket and none of their better known national democrats wanted to run. (Just as it is today – every high profile democrat is rejecting a last minute 2024 run.) So, they nominated Hubert Humphrey, who was VP under Johnson and previous senator from a deeply blue state. (Does any of that sound familiar?)

    In the end, Humphrey was thrown to the wolves and lost terribly in a three person race. (Governor George Wallace ran as an independent.) The democrats did maintain control of the House and Senate despite the tumultuous campaign and THAT maybe part of the calculus current democrats are considering.

    Polls are showing that on the current trajectory, Republicans win the WH and Senate with the House up for grabs. Fearful they would lose all three in November, the democrats yanked Biden from the race in the hope of salvaging one.

    Ultimately, the key factor is going to be fundraising by the democrats once they have their new candidate (with Harris currently projected). The money they raised immediately must be discounted in terms of enthusiasm for Harris because donors have dried up their giving until Biden left the race and this money was already in the pipeline.

    After the convention, whoever is nominated will have to stand on their own two feet. In the process, they must convince donors that they can actually win and their campaign donations are money well spent. (Right now? That's a pretty tough ask.)

  16. One of these days the Party will learn that Committee selected candidates are the worst. They saw this with Clinton, they just saw this with Biden, and for the threepeate, Harris… 😢

  21. This is a good report albeit dated by now. Harris has raised some 100 million and been given access to Biden's funds of 96 million. Trump is of course pursuing that with the FEC. The latest is the Republican Campaign is telling Republicans not to use racial or gender references when bad mouthing Harris. Polosi has endorsed Harris but not Obama.
