Because plants are amazing
Trees can happily live with a fire going on inside their hollowed out trunks. This is fine.
You don’t seem to have had a real answer – it’s because the living vascular tissue (that transports water and other nutrients) is around the outside of the trunk, the inner wood is dead anyway.
