Was expecting the M113 to get picked off by the treeline or get lit up by squad level AT, but nope: dismounts get out, kill everyone in the dugouts, then pack up and leave. What the fuck is happening over there? Are front lines supposed to be this porous?

PS: I got this video off /k/ without context, and searching it on Google seems to bring up this article which fits it's content. Please correct if the source I posted is wrong.

  1. It depends.

Maybe the Russians where cycling troops.

    Maybe they didn’t expect it

Maybe these guys are Rambo Jesus

Maybe the Russians gained 50 trenches and are willing to lose this 1

There is literally an infinite amount of scenarios why this ONE out of TENS OF THOUSANDS of trench systems might be slightly easier or harder than others.

This is in zaporizhia, so it’s literally fucked for both sides. Both sides are just chucking people on the eastern front foe villages that are a couple thousand big.

  2. Looks like an auto cannon from another vehicle off screen is providing some fire support. Definitely helps with keeping the entrench Russian’s heads down so the infantry can do their jobs

  3. Much better then that video a few days ago where situation was reversed and the driver of the APC hightails it out of there, taking the only cover the assaulting Russian’s have and they get massacred.

  4. Yeah, its not WW1 where a defensive lines stretched unbroken for hundreds of miles. These small trenches act as barriers and nodes. They can serve to (try and) stop a forward advance and relay information to larger units further back behind the lines. You put a squad in a trench, give them a radio, and tell them to give you a heads up if you see or hear anything. It’s the closest thing to a forward recon element you can have in a war where if you get up and walk 50 meters, you get shot or a toy with a bomb flies into your chest.

It also makes them vulnerable to actions like this. No one can quickly come and help you. If you get bum rushed, it turns into a cage match, and if the other side knows what they’re doing, you’re fucked. That’s also why they leave quickly, because someone probably got on a radio and said “they’re here, send drones and artillery on my position right now.”

  5. Every M113 I see, I have to pause and check if it’s one of the ones Australia sent.

We wrote in the turret heaps of messages for the Ukrainian lads, and let’s just say “anti-putin rhetoric”.

  6. I’ve never served and never will due to my tendency to injure myself in fantastically stupid ways but if I had to guess it’s a forward OP and they were simply caught off guard, maybe already engaged and had casualties too considering what we see here makes it look like a pretty quick engagement, but it is cut so who really knows.
