  1. Any Novocastrian knows the Keep. Best viewed from the window of The Bridge Hotel with a nice pint.

  2. Yeah it alright, its made out of lego, they did it for the Diamond jubilee a few years back

  3. I don’t think I’ve even seen an English castle in the middle of a carpark before. Normally the carpark holds 8 cars and is half a mile down a steep hill.

  4. kind of crazy to imagine all the medieval castles looking new with flat flush walls rather than the cobbled, wind battered walls we are used to seeing

  5. Newcastle was called Pons Aelius by Romans who built first fort / castle. Normans built castle over the old Roman fort hence Novem Castellum (New Castle) so it was the Normans fault. Not very original name ha ha

  6. Here’s another fun fact regarding UK place names: The entire south part of the country used to just be called Ampton. But then King James or someone decided they should be split into Northampton and Southampton, and then all the other counties came into existence.

  7. They’ve also got Lumley Castle in Chester-le-Street just outside the city!! It’s lovely
