We have an overladen apple tree in our garden and neighbour mentioned she would happily take some off us. Dropped round a big bag full on Sat and then yesterday we got a knock delivering this crumble using our fruit.

Honestly these are the best neighbours I have ever had. How nice is this!! Now just need to find takers for the hundreds of other apples soon to be harvested. Thinking of popping some out in baskets out front with a sign for people to help themselves. It's a pretty old neighbourhood here, victorian houses that rarely go up for sale so the residents tend to age in these homes so I am thinking there will be others who will happily yake some to coom with. Hoping we can get them to good use. There is a very old school literally 4 doors down from us so hoping we may be able to hold off picking until school is in as then the school run people can take these apples. There are SO SO SO many. We only harvested these now as the branch looked like it might break under the weight of them.

  1. Definitely pop some in a box out front. If you lived near me I would gratefully take some.

  2. Definitely remove some, even if they’re not ready. It is a real risk that the branches can’t support the weigh of the growing fruits and snap off, which can really damage the tree.

Under ripe fruit and still fine to cook with, since you can add a bit of sugar to make up for the sugars which haven’t had time to develop in the fruits naturally. It’s a lovely idea to leave them out for people to use – much better than them going to waste or damaging your tree 🙂
