Enzo Maresca on Raheem Sterling out of the project: “I’ve been honest, he will have no minutes here… I am not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers. It’s simple”.

  1. 1st he says he’s part of the team but now sings a different tune. Can’t he make up his mind.

  2. This is the problem with sacking all your managers. Boehly is constantly trying to buy new players to fit the new manager’s style and then sacking the manager. That’s why they’ve got so many players and now don’t know what to do with them all.

  3. Not surprised at all. Most wingers need to be able to track back and defend in the current style.

    Sterling doesn’t offer that.

That doesn’t take away from him being good going forward.

  4. Now they gotta pay for the Saudis to bail them out of his contract, probably won’t be easy to find someone willing to cover his wages and 3 year contract

  5. Well, you haven’t been honest. As you said, you would have liked to have him in your squad

Now you are saying he will get no minutes, not cause of what his ‘camp’ said, but cause he doesn’t fit down, you want to play.

However, I don’t solely blame you. Since, you know, your club is an absolute shitshow. It was great of one of your owners to leave a few minutes early in the first game of the season, even though he is one of the main reasons the club is a mess.

  6. This is what happens when people who used to be of good character start working for serious bad people, they adopt their bosses’ abysmal personality traits and become nasty and disrespectful. He won’t last a season anyway, by which time he’ll have burnt every single bridge that he’d ever crossed

  7. It’s a tactic to get him out of the club and rid of his wages. Finding someone willing to give a 29 y speed dependant player 320k a week is another story in itself.

  8. I dont get the hate for Maresca on this one. Many managers are on record as saying any more than 20-23 players in a first team squad is disruptive – a prime Mourinho being one. Its not his fault he’s been given 45-50 players, is it not better to tell the player face to face he’s not making the cut – as he seems to have done?

I feel like Man Utd could do more of this. They have a bloated squad of players that repeatedly have not delivered, yet all are given encouragement that they are part of the setup despite needing to sell players

  9. Do Chelsea think that it’s good business to announce he’s unwanted when the queue for him is nonexistent?

  10. Well he didn’t like him when he was with him at MC so who would have thought Sterling had a shot when Maresca went to Chelsea?

  11. If he didn’t fit the system why wait until after the first game to tell him. He didn’t go to euros so he was with them since the start of pre-season. Why wait until the end of the transfer window?

  12. Given that they’re keeping Mudryk around, it would appear the different kind of winger he prefers is the shitty kind.

  13. I understand why this is happening to him but there has got to have been a better way than icing him out.
