Pep Guardiola: “In term of stats, Erling Haaland is on the same level with Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo. They dominated the last decade, 15 years, absolutely everything. So, I don’t know how he does it, but scoring 91 Premier League goals in 100 games is unbelievable.”

  1. He’s at the same level in terms of goals but he’s not as good a footballer as those two

  2. It’s almost as if stats don’t tell you the whole story and you have to watch the games to see how good players are.

  3. I think a few players have managed to have seasons at the level of Messi and Ronaldo, its just few, if any have managed it for such a long period of time.

  4. The most insane thing about Haaland is how easily he’s replicated his insane numbers in 3 very different leagues. I don’t think anyone necessarily expected him to be so good so quickly for Dortmund. How many players do you see do insane numbers in smaller leagues then as soon as they get to a top league really struggle.

He didn’t even need a full game to get up to that level haha.

Then similarly, it seems like good Bundesliga players don’t necessarily easily make it in the premier league and he’s just walked in an if anything gotten better and more productive.

    It’s straight up infuriating haha

  5. You people miss the point. Pep is correct, Haaland has been on Ronaldo & Messi level just in his own role. If he did flashy 1 on 1s you people would have a different opinion.

For his role, which is a pure CF/PF and sometimes a Poacher. Haaland is damn near perfect. He’s no less of a talent and he’s proven that for the past two seasons.

Edit: That Ballon d’Or was his too, another reason why the voting should be by players not media representatives who’s profits are tied with Messi/Ronaldo’s stardom.

  6. I’m not saying it as a criticism because no matter how you get those insane numbers it is ridiculously impressive, but the difference between him and those 2 is that they got their numbers while also being the best players in the game. Haaland can go a whole half touching the ball like 6 times, but 2 of those are goals. Unreal at what he does.

  7. I grew up watching Messi and Ronaldo and revere their footballing talent deeply, but the incessant need to compare them to any forward showing promise is getting so boring. I just wish they’d let us enjoy watching the footballer. I understand mentioning for the sake of discussion every now but you can’t mention Haaland or Mbappe without usually hearing “Yeah, but Messi..” or “They’ll never put up Ronaldo numbers. “

  8. I think there’s a separate category of player that includes Haaland, Kane and Lewandowski. Tall players with excellent goal scoring ability. Messi and Ronaldo were in another category of player completely untouched by any other aside from maybe Brazilian Ronaldo pre-injury and possibly Pele, who I never saw play live. (Didn’t include Maradona cos I’m referring mainly to prolific scorers)
