How likely is it that nuclear power plants will be hit in Ukraine, Russia? | DW News

The Ukrainian airforce says they have struck and destroyed another bridge in Russia’s Kursk region – as they seek to disrupt Moscow’s combat operations and supply routes. The battlefield situation in Ukraine remains dire as Russian forces march steadily forward. But after defending home soil for two-and-a-half years, Ukraine’s forces are now on the front foot inside Russian territory.

For more on this, we talk to Elena Sokova, Executive Director of the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation.

  8. If dumb wars can escalate over time, anything is possible because nations fight wars to win at all costs ,even if millions get fried alive if necessary ..And face facts ,if you read about World War 11..or lived back then it was a bloodbath ask your great,great,great Grandaddy..🤐

  11. They are all offline and cooled.
    Even if they are hit, the area that actually can cause harm is so small and so well built, it'd take a direct hit.
    Those giants towers are nothing more than a way to release steam.

  18. They must tell these reporters talk about everything under the sun and this lady is even slowing down the speed. I guess they have to fill out each new cycle.

With populated RU cities and towns so close to Zaporizhzhia NPP RU wouldn't bomb it.. they might sabotage it and destroy the facility so it can't be used as a power plant again, I'd expect that. If they can remove the fuel I wouldn't be surprised if they filled the reactors with concrete. It's called "entombment" and is used to render them useless and stop potential leaks. It was put in cold shutdown some time ago now.

  20. The government stated that the weapons transferred to Ukraine are already considered Ukrainian and they themselves decide how to use them.

    Imagine tomorrow Russia hands over nuclear bombs to the Taliban or the Houthis and will also say that they themselves will decide how to use them… these are now their weapons… How do you like that?

    Imagine nuclear bombing of your countries… and Russia will say that it had nothing to do with it.

    Is that what you say? Why can't Russia do this?

  23. 3:05 what was that? A German general once said” the German don’t trust the Russians, but Russian don’t trust each other”. The plants haven’t been upgraded since the 90’s. If you think coronavirus was a threat, wait until radiation leaks go everywhere in Europe. Just giving NATO a read for entering the war.

The cure to this concern should be obvious: Russia can cease hostilities and withdraw completely from Ukraine immediately, and negotiate with Ukraine for leased use of part of Crimea as a seaport. Then Russia gets a non-Arctic seaport, Ukraine gets its country back, and Russia can pay for use of Ukrainian territory as part of reparations. Also, all abducted Ukranian citizens (especially the kids) are to be returned to Ukraine immediately. The threat to sensitive facilities like nuclear reactors would evaporate. Problem solved.

They aint gonna do nuclear strikes coz that will end the war quite fast, Russia & China hoping this war drags on for many more years coz every year it continues, the west keep getting weaker as they need to support Ukraine with billions, eventually their own ppl will start rioting due to economic difficulties and then its full on chaos… Thats the only possible way to drastically reduce the power of the west, have to let democracy self destruct by itself…lol
