  1. Ask Italy and Greece to direct all the beach landing STEM professionals to Germany, i bet they will agree.

  2. Germany is suboptimal to live in — doesn’t have the wages of Switzerland/NL/Denmark, or the QoL of Italy/Spain/Portugal, OR the outsized payoffs in elite industry like US or even UK, and it’s pretty close minded in many aspects of life.

It’s just a dreary factory of a country and for other factors, the ‘factory’ part is sputtering so you have nothing really left going for it.

  3. It seems to be an article quoting another article in… the daily mail. Not sure I’d lose sleep just yet.

  4. Not surprising, that’s what screwing up energy policy does. Everyone knew that basing economy on cheap Russian fossil gas was an enormous risk.

Factories suffer due to insane energy prices, so people who are already mobile will look for better opportunities elsewhere.

  5. There isn’t much point in moving to Germany from the UK to earn less and to pay more tax – especially as the country is still pretty hostile to immigration.

  6. I mean, is it any wonder, even if it came from a reliable source?
Qualifications are often not recognized and have to be newly acquired here, or as with one of my colleagues from Brazil, who now has to do a C1 German course to finally get her full salary, even though she has been working here for 4 years.
I can well imagine that this and the high taxes are not the best arguments for attracting skilled workers…

  7. There are lots of German doctors working in Sweden, apparently the working conditions in Gemany are **Scheiße**…

  8. Germany absorbs students from Southern Europe and Asia, gifts them a free degree from an excellent institution, and then watches them leave right after graduation. This happens at a rate of tens of thousands per year in Munich alone

It’s a good place for those seeking an alternative lifestyle or those without a choice but not for those wanting the biggest possible paycheck

  9. In the 60’s both Germany and the Netherlands bought the US F104 Starfighter jet. German pilots would fly to the Dutch border, fake some small problems and land in the Netherlands because the Dutch mechanics could read the manuals.

  10. You guys are welcome in the Netherlands. Remember that in the Netherlands it’s BYOH: Bring Your Own House

  11. Has the government told companies that? The IT sector is oversaturated and the market has been shit for the last two/three years.
I want to believe the need lies in Medicine and Engineering.

  12. I doubt that Germany is somehow concerned about it, there’s studies that suggest that over regulated migration in over regulated markets is not really helping or contributing to economic growth. I’m pretty sure that Germans are fine with people leaving Germany

  13. As a middle-high earner with 2 kids ( 3rd is to be born next year) neither UK, nor the US are attractive for us as a family. Germany still has solid education, lots of biking, hiking, family oriented activities all around the country. Favorable conditions for families and imo good health system for the kids.

It is not a place for money making, but what is the point of making money if it will end up in nurseries and private schools anyway? What is money good for if you cannot even take time off for your family? Not to mention shootings, safety concerns, lack of walkability, crazy unhinged adults.

So yeah Germany might not be for everyone, but for families it definitely offers a lot. I appreciate this country and want to stay, work hard, keep contributing as long as we are welcome.

  15. I get annoyed about how many foreigners are coming in and taking my entry level jobs that are left in the UK.

  16. Well of course. Applying to visas to stay has been increasingly difficult. Most migration offices are saturated in cities where migrants move to work, and the office in charge of telling you to leave apparently works much faster than the one that processes your papers to stay.
