DW reporter, embedded with Ukrainian troops, travels into Ukraine-controlled Kursk region in Russia

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first visit along the border with Russia since Ukraine’s military launched its assault into Russia’s Kursk region. Zelenskyy met with army commanders. He has said Ukraine has no plans to occupy the area in the long-term, but he wants to create a buffer zone to block attacks on Ukraine. Zelenskyy did not cross the border into Russia.
DW Correspondent Nick Connolly has been embedded with Ukrainian army personnel during their offensive in the Kursk region. He accompanied them as they headed for the town of Sudzha, just beyond the border with Russia, where Ukraine is setting up a military command post.

  1. Исход сего был предрешён ещё до его начала. Победят правые, а моль всё-таки вынесут вперёд ногами!!

  2. Ukraine seems like taken the bite moving forces from front to other places where they dont want actually to stay….Meanwhile easter defense is falling …

  3. The solution is rather simple at this point in my opinion. Let Russia keep Crimea and Donetsk, and Ukraine can keep Moscow if they can reach it. Everybody happy.

  4. This is a really bad look for the soviets. I can’t imagine the reaction here in the US if a neighboring country occupied a state. If the military didn’t do anything, the patriots and the militias would clean them up. Three weeks is beyond excessive

  5. I think Russia is totally fine with best Ukrainian troops being stocked in Kursk region. Russia will not try to get Ukrainians out of there until leaves provide cover and roads are fine for fast maneuvers. I think Zaluzhniy would have never agreed to this waste of manpower and equipment. Zelensky is a showman not a strategist. This is why most military experts are still asking themselves: what was the purpose of this operation. We all know Ukraine will need additional tens of thousands to move on. Otherwise, they would simply be there until weather allows. Let’s wait until mid October to really know if this was worth it.

  6. The Russian public can never deny their knowledge & support for the decades long Russian annexations on neighbors. There were interviews & video footages on Sputnik national TV were Russians are jubilant over the annexation of Crimea, Transnistria, Ossetia, Sevastopol & Abhkasia. But now that neighbors are fighting back bringing the war inside Moscow then the Russian public suddenly plays the victim card. This was just so ironic.

  7. No, russia will not defend kursk region the territory that they gained in Ukraine is much more valuable than that land lock kursk oblast. this is a opportunity for putin to pull a peace treaty and make a territorial swap, Ukraine get kursk while russia can now have the donbas+crimea

  8. As we can see, the Russian citizens are so far removed from the rest of the real world, it’s as though they’re lost in time? Russia needs to lose this war for the good of their own people! Unfortunately, Joe Biden, the Pentagon, fools like Scholz, have taken the Neville Chamberlain cowardly approach & the world is paying for it economically.
