  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

Ukraine has used a new class of domestically-produced drone to attack Russia for the first time, [Volodymyr Zelensky](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/08/24/zelensky-warns-ukraine-soon-able-attack-any-part-russia/) confirmed on Saturday.

The Ukrainian president described the Palianytsia drone-missile as a “completely new class of weapon” that will pound targets inside Russia until [Vladimir Putin](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/24/the-fall-of-vladimir-putin-is-now-only-a-matter-of-time/) withdraws his troops from Ukraine.

Palianytsia, which means a loaf of bread in Ukrainian and is hard for Russians to pronounce properly, is described as a highly manoeuvrable, fast drone that has been fitted with a jet engine and a powerful warhead.

The word Palianytsia has been used as a password at Ukrainian checkpoints, given Russian soldiers’ struggles to enunciate the term.

  2. Ive just let google translate say “palianytsia” and it doesnt sound that difficult to pronounce it.. and i dont speak either.
Is it that hard to mask russian accent(s)? Is this word really especially hard for them to pronounce?

  3. Who would have believed on February 24, 2022 that Ukraine had conquered over 1000 km2 of territory in Russia in August 24 and was easily holding it? That would have been unimaginable and totally crazy, you would have been taken to a psychiatric hospital!

  4. may you produce many thousands of these to take the war back to ruZZian territory

  5. So is the “Palianytsia drone-missile” a class of weapon or a specific model. So far I have seen drawings of one with with a delta wing (and wreckage) and pictures or video of at least 2 others with different wing and tail configurations posted. Other than they all use the small turbojet engines and launch with a dolly they are not even close to the same weapon. I know it is all probably a combo of people posting old weapon development pics and video and just disinfo so the Russians do not know what is coming thier way but still has me confused which is probably the point.

  6. That’s the equivalent of the French calling their new rocket “baguette”. Seems like a fitting name.

  7. The tech advantage from untestricted access to the western market (in combination with military supplies of course) will hopefully win this war for Ukraine. It’s great they can develop their own dedicated weapons which they can use however they please.
