  1. This is a gimmick, right? He can jump a lot higher than this, but he purposely quits after incrementing the WR by 1 cm. He can obviously do what he wants, and the crowds love it, but it would be more impressive if he actually jumped his max height and then beat that.

  2. There’s something cool about having a world record be in an Olympic final. Now it’s from a meet that very few were even able to watch

  3. Who’d have thought that a massive money prize would have pushed him to break more records?

  4. Understand they make more money this way, but it does take the gloss off his Olympic WR for me when we now know he can jump way higher but it just doing it in increments to make money.

  5. I kinda wish they would just tell him they’ll pay him 50k * every cm past world record + a bonus if he can just do it one time. What if he gets injured before hitting the final mark? Or he starts physically declining.

  6. With this jump he now have the 10 best pole vault jumps of history. Lavillenie only the 11th.

  7. Armand Duplantis is the greatest pole vaulter of all time, there’s not doubt. No one is touching any of his records for a very long time.

  8. It sucks that he jumps for Sweden simply because they agreed to give his dad a job. I’m guessing it’s financially beneficial to both of them, but the US treats its track athletes so poorly I don’t blame them.

  9. Just went to check what record Lavillenie was holding and it was 6.16m indoor. The previous holder was of course Bubka.

And they’re the only 3 guys that reached 6.10m and higher.

And Duplantis can jump at least 10cm above that !
