  1. Such a shame. Was heartwarming watching him manage Liverpool vs Ajax legends. He really enjoyed himself. Seemed a great guy.

  2. Time to tell my Sven Goran Eriksson story, from when he was England manager.

I was staying at this hotel in Wales, and was unpacking the bags from my car in a sunny and fairly quiet car park.

I hear the boot unlock on the car that was parked about three spaces along from mine, so I glance up.

It’s Sven, in England tracksuit, pulling his own bag out of the boot.

He looks up, smiles gently, and says ‘Hello, nice to meet you’. We exchange nods, and he walks off into the hotel, looking remarkably happy and content with the world.

It was nice to meet you too, Sven.

  3. Very upsetting news. Great man, loved by many and most importantly, lived life to the full.

  4. I had the most fun as an England fan when Sven was manager.

The 5-1 against Germany. Beckham’s free kick. Watching us beat Argentina in the World Cup in my work canteen. Even watching us getting knocked out on penalties to Portugal at Glastonbury.
Visiting Nurenburg for the Trinidad game in 2006.

    Great fuckin’ times. Thanks, Sven.

  5. RIP Sven. I’m too young to remember any of his England tenure other than the 2006 World Cup, but he always seemed like a nice decent bloke.
