Companies are not giving raises that outpace inflation so the only way to get a real raise anymore is to get a new job.

Next year is going to be a bad year for job seekers, outside a few industries (medical) looking for cheap labor, most other places (tech) are still in the midst of downsizing. Just got off a call from my boss said the company will be doing a 20% staff cut by end of the year. Lots of companies are downsizing as they are seeing the writing on the wall.
