What is that “A” for?

This was taken in Krefeld. If you turn right, you get to the on-ramp for the A57. It’s not for trams because this is nowhere near a tram.

The “Signalisierung geändert” sign is outdated since the lights were changed three years ago.

  1. The A stands for Anmeldung (registration) and indicates that a bus is approaching the traffic lights. Using a GPS transmitter, the bus “registers” at the traffic lights, which then either shortens the red phase slightly or switches the lights to green for a little longer.

  2. This is a light with ÖPNV-Vorrangschaltung (public transport priority). The “A” is informational only and lets the driver know that the intersection has detected the bus. It stands for “Anmeldung” (registration).
