9. If the US wants Ukraine to win the war against Russia, why did it send outdated F-16s instead of more modern models like the F-22 or F-35?
   
   #1 Until 2014 Ukraine was in a military agreement with our enemy, Russia. Why should we (the U.S.) trust Ukraine with our newest, most significant hardware and technology. Ukraine could be just one election away from cozying up to Russia. It would be better for the U.S. to personally defend Ukraine from the skies.
   #2 The F-16 is a very capable supersonic multirole fighter aircraft. Even the ones deployed in the Ukrainian military have many technological upgrades. They are able to carry many intelligent weapons that the Ukrainian Soviet built aircraft can not carry. One of the most significant upgrades of technology is not on the aircraft itself, but the integration of real time intelligence feed from allied surveillance which allows the pilots to receive target tracking without turning on their own tracking radar. This keeps them somewhat invisible to the targets.
