Russia strikes half of Ukrainian territory in massive onslaught

More than half of Ukraine’s regions were hit as Russia unleashed a massive missile and drone barrage in the early hours of Monday.

It comes after a British safety adviser working in eastern Ukraine was killed after a missile strike on a hotel on Saturday.

On Monday, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, said Russia used more than 100 missiles and about 100 drones in what appears to be Russia’s biggest attack on Ukraine in weeks, killing at least four people.

One person was killed in the western city of Lutsk, one in the central Dnipropetrovsk region and one in Zaporizhzhia region in the southeast, and thirteen others were wounded.

Energy facilities in at least three Ukrainian regions were hit, causing power cuts across the country as far as the capital Kyiv and disruption in water supplies.

“The energy infrastructure has once again become the target of Russian terrorists. Unfortunately, there is damage in a number of regions,” said Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s prime minister, on Monday.

Russia meanwhile claimed it had downed 20 drones launched by Ukraine overnight.

  1. I just dont get why Zalenski invaded Russia. Was it just to poke the bear? What else did he expect? The first priority should be to minimise casualty and seek peace. Its not about right or wrong any more.

  14. Never heard of "don't poke the bear"?
    Ukraine have been ATTACKED without provocation by Russia and INVADED so it was in their right to DEFEND themselves with the supplies we gave them but recently their new tactics was to ATTACK part of Russia and INVADED some territory.
    Therefore it totally logical to see Russia DEFENDING themselves even know they was the first to start the hostilities.

  27. The Ukrainians love to claim that they shoot down 200% of everything Russia launches. I think this strike was meant to show everyone once and for all that no, Most Russian weapons get through.

  39. Well done Russia. NATO is losing to a single country that they didn’t want to accept. Funny how Russia and BRICS managed to win the US and all its puppets once again
