  1. The fate of peace in Europe lies in the hands of Western politicians. General Philip Breedlove, the former head of NATO in Europe, is convinced of this, reports the Associated Press.

The United States is currently restricting the use of long-range ballistic missiles that it provides to Ukraine. This will prevent Kyiv from striking military targets deep in Russia. These include military airfields from which Russian planes have attacked civilian targets in Ukraine.

PHILIP BREEDLOVE, A RETIRED U.S. GENERAL, FORMER HEAD NATO IN EUROPE (2013 TO 2016)

This war is going to end exactly how Western policymakers decide it will end. If we keep doing what we’re doing, Ukraine will eventually lose. Because right now … we are purposely not giving Ukraine what they need to win.

Meanwhile, a number of American and European military and political experts say the White House must realize that Putin’s threats to attack the West, including with nuclear weapons, are blackmail and lies. After all, despite his boisterous statements, Putin is afraid of an open confrontation with NATO.

  2. This is unfortunately true.

The USA (more specifically, republicans) doomed Ukraine when they didn’t supply weapons late last year.

It’s been an uphill battle since.

  3. That’s what I sad earlier, they just keep giving the things so they can keep their heads above the water. If it goes worse they give more, once they do great suddenly the shells are low on stock.

Ukraine needs to step up and fix their own war hardware to get on top. Starting with long range equipment and air defence.

  4. I’m in favor of allowing Ukraine to use any weapon to hit russias military. And I can’t think of why my country wont allow it. putin is trying to blackmail the world into letting him do whatever he wants.

  5. Seeing how Russia has to pull ordinance and other support from like minded actors (NK, Iran, China), it’s no surprise that western nations don’t want this ending anytime soon.

They’re effectively trading Ukrainian lives and land for the depletion of their adversaries resources. All they have to do is provide just enough assistance to maintain this war.

  6. Its soooo annoying, western governments restrict something or not send something else and a year later its suddenly no problem anymore.

  7. Our politicians in the west are all cowards. For the life of me, I can’t understand why they protect Putin and his rotten agenda. It’s really sickening me, why we let Ukraine down over ruzzia.

  8. In war you can’t be half pregnant. The recent moves of Ukraine in to Russia has shown Russian bluff for what it is – Bluff.

No way dare they instigate nuclear Armageddon that would be utterly futile.

  9. to right , this will go down in history as the biggest balls up by the west and there have been some biggies, they could make a better world but money talks and ruzzia has lots thanks to europe

  10. Not only not giving, not allowing it to be used.

Putin is the one who should be afraid of ‘escalation’ yet so far he has had limited consequences for continually doing so, while threatening everyone one else if they respond like for like.

  11. There is still one line that can be pursued. The U.S., if it wanted to, would supply Ukraine with enough support to defeat Russia a year ago. It’s just that Russia would have been “unbleeded”.

What we are watching here is the complete destruction of Russia to the bone. Because it will destroy itself on many fronts with this war of attrition: economically, militarily, demographically. And it will never recover. Will not come back ever. The US defacto used Ukraine here to totally annihilate one of their worst enemies and it cost them nothing all together. Plus they still stand to make a tidy profit from it thanks to the arms industry. We’ve never seen the kind of advertising we’ve seen for US military hardware in the past. HIMARS became such as iconic weapon.

So the longer the war goes on, the worse russia will get (and they want it to spill the beans and cease to exist) and the more the usa will make money and get stronger.

Bad? Good? In the end it is Russia’s defeat and it will cost many Ukrainian lives. But if the west, led by the usa, hadn’t calculated this way, Ukraine would be Russia today, or russian would be back in 10 years.

  12. We apparently have more of an interest in watching Russia bleed than seeing Ukraine live

  13. He is spot onn absolutely correct in his statement. I have thought the same from inception. The fear factor of Putin “going nuclear” has been proven to be a red herring, so let’s collectively get this damn war done !!

  14. Wars take longer than the experts estimate and there’s nothing to gain by prolonging it. Hindsight is 20 20. Russia retreated from Afghanistan after losing only 16k troops. Nobody’s bingo card had putler willing to give up a half million troops and the majority of his hardware. Pointing fingers on our side shows weakness. It’s the tenth round and those body blows have weakened the legs and they are wobbling. The oligarchs are about to throw in the towel.

  15. I’m totally in favor of attacms hitting deep in russia but I will say ukraine is only becoming more capable at defending itself as time goes on and I truly believe russia won’t defeat ukraine even with the restrictions. It’s just not gonna happen. That being said I believe the 6 billion of drawdown authority that is about to expire should be a scandal

  16. The US doesn’t care about ukraine. It’s about just slowly bleeding Russia dry. It is common sense. Do people think Russia helped the Vietnamese during the vietnam War because Russia had a soft spot for vietnam or just because they were fighting the US?
