  1. Great point for Brighton. Off to a flying start, could be a hell of a fight for top 6 this season.

  2. Shit outcome given the dominant start, but Brighton would probably take 3 points against most teams in the 10 v 11 situation, so at this point we have to just see the value in the point after the red decision is made. The loss of Rice for the NLD is probably the bigger issue.

  3. The ref got the second yellow absolute bang on correct.

You kick a ball away, you get booked. We all know that’s the rule.

YES I know he missed one earlier with Pedro.

The easiest way for Rice to not get booked again is to not kick the ball away.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people are saying its a bad decision lol.

  4. If the rule is that kicking the ball away is a yellow, then that’s the rule. All we ask is for consistent enforcement.

  5. All I read is how Arsenal dropped points, nothing about how lucky Arsenal were to gain a point. Well done Brighton, great start to your season.

  6. I blame Rice for putting himself in that situation in the first place. He understands his importance to the team and should have been conscious of the fact that he was on a yellow. Really shouldve came away with 3 points but its a long season. Just gotta be better

  7. The way a rule is enforced is important as well.

The foul was too far back from where the ball was going to be played. The ball was still rolling when going to be played. Brighton was an unlikely threat to the Arsenal goal from that position. Brighton defender intentionally kicked Rice.

Rice touching the ball out of play is too minor in this situation to be deserving of a send-off.

It’s an excessive response to a very minor offense. Naughty, yes, but deserves no more than a talking to.

Players get away with way worse. It takes a real dunce to make the decision that this ref made. Raya later getting a card for “time wasting” is also a funny example. I’m quite sure he’s just trying to make the right choice on distribution.

When a situation is subjective, rules can not be enforced without applying insight and adaptability.

  8. Correct to letter of the law but Brighton player more switched on, they weren’t trying to take the free kick quickly just noticed Rice in the way and tried to get him to play which unfortunately for him he did.
